New Job Orientation Part A

my story at work

Today I went to my first part of orientation for my new job as bar attendant. It was a fairly long orientation. 3.5 hours just for part A. No break but luckily they provided Mars bar and a bottle of coke otherwise I might pass out.

Part A orientation was held in a temporary office. Part B orientation will be at the bar. Part A is all about paper work and HR system. They introduce IT system to manage roaster, which is a bit different from my old job. One of the interesting things is I need to use my finger print to log in and log out. The recorded time will sent to the HR system. One of the new employees asked : what if my finger print doesn’t work because my finger has been cut. I was joking to her : use your toes.

Another thing impressed me was I can get RSA ( Responsible Service of Alcohol) done through my new employer and it is free. Also I found out my old RSA certificate has no expiry date.

I had my photo ID done at the orientation. But the photo on my ID looks awful, particularly when you just got up and you had your photo taken.

Another thing I noticed was people’s age are quite different at the orientation. The youngest one probably only 13 and the oldest one is in his 70’s. That is the thing I like working in Australia. As long as you are capable for your job, age is not the barrier. They talked about a lot about discrimination, harassment and bullying policy as well. Hopefully it is going to be a friendly environment but who knows.

Part B orientation will be all about bar skills such as using the till, pouring beer, taking credit card etc. I am kind of looking forward to it even I have experience already. I will keep you posted.

I start to miss my old job already. Maybe it is because I have been there long time and very familiar with the routine. Now I have to start from scratch and learn everything again. Also my impression is people are not as friendly as my old job. I wish I am wrong.

Don’t forget to leave your comments here. Thanks a lot 🙂
